Inner City

Claire and I continue to be amazed at where God has brought us and what He is doing in our lives. Two years ago, we were just living life. I was a teacher and coach at a local high school and she was a stay at home mom. Since then, God has led us down a path I thought I would never go down; much less lead my family down. Yet, here we are…full time FCA Baseball staff to the inner-city of Atlanta, Georgia.

Our vision is to see Urban Atlanta and the world impacted for Jesus Christ through coaches and athletes. We primarily minister to and through coaches. Here are a few statistics:

• 6 middle school baseball clinics with approximately 150 kids in attendance.
• A Baseball League which consisted of 5 Atlanta Public Middle Schools, 75 baseball players, 11 coaches, 10 Christian umpires, and countless volunteers.
• The 1st ever Inner-City FCA Summer Baseball Team which included 14 players, 4 coaches, and many opportunities to witness and mentor for Jesus Christ.
• The 1st ever Inner-City Baseball FCA Camp Huddle Leader. Cortez Russell had 8 younger boys under his leadership at Black Mountain II.
• Over 150 FCA New Testaments and over 100 FCA Gameplan Bibles put in the hands of coaches and athletes this year.
• And, finally, over 50 young athletes and coaches made deeper commitments for Jesus Christ at an FCA Urban Baseball event over the last year.

As we prepare to go forward into 2012, God has emphasized relationship to me. Everything we do comes back to relationship. Yes, we want to have an excellent program. We want a great atmosphere for game days. BUT, none of this matters without relationships.  Check this out!

Romans 10:14-15: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
